Overview

TECfusions announced on January 14, 2025, that it acquired 1,395 acres in Upper Burrell, Pennsylvania, including the former Alcoa research campus, for Keystone Connect. The company said it would deploy 3 gigawatts over six years and that 12 megawatts was immediately available. Pennsylvania awarded a $2 million Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant for the adaptive-reuse work. Founder and CTO Simon Tusha and vice president Steve Hershey framed the project as reuse of a shuttered office and industrial plant and as thousands of jobs for western Pennsylvania. The Upper Burrell campus is planned with on-site natural-gas generation for dual utility and microgrid service, and TECfusions said it is discussing exporting excess power onto the local grid. State Representative Jill Cooper of the 55th District and Senator Joe Pittman backed bringing the Alcoa site back into use. Jason Rigone of Westmoreland County Industrial Development called the plan adaptive reuse of existing industrial infrastructure. Jim Smith, president of Economic Growth Connection, called it a bridge from the region’s industrial heritage to digital infrastructure. TECfusions says it operates more than thirty sites worldwide and that adaptive reuse can deliver capacity within six months of signature.
