Overview

Robena is a planned hyperscale campus on the former Robena Mine in Greene County, Pennsylvania. The Robena Megasite site lists 1,400 acres with more than 750 buildable acres, 910 MW of on-site utility-grade combined-cycle generation, 1,820 MWh of battery storage, and a reserved second-quarter 2028 turbine delivery. JLL markets the industrial-zoned site as eliminating grid dependency for AI and cloud load. Data Center Dynamics, citing the Herald-Standard, reported Essential Utilities partnering with Pittsburgh’s International Electric Power on the 1,400-acre project along the Monongahela River. IEP said it has an agreement to buy the land from Core Natural Resources, that the dormant mine’s preparation plant closed in 2007, and that the campus could go online as early as 2029 and create more than 1,000 construction jobs. Essential Utilities said it will install 910 MW of natural-gas turbines, backed by an Eos Energy Enterprises battery system, and that turbine manufacturing slots are reserved for 2028 delivery. DCD noted the Robena mine was among the largest mechanized coal mines in the United States and the site of a December 1962 explosion that killed 37 workers.
