Overview

Homer City Energy Campus is the redevelopment of the former Homer City Generating Station in Indiana County, Pennsylvania. Homer City Redevelopment says the coal plant began operations in 1969, was Pennsylvania’s largest coal-burning station, connected directly to PJM and NYISO, and was permanently decommissioned on July 1, 2023. On April 2, 2025, Homer City Redevelopment and Kiewit announced a more than 3,200-acre natural-gas-powered data-center campus. GE Vernova will supply seven hydrogen-enabled 7HA.02 turbines, with first deliveries expected in 2026, targeting up to 4.4 GW, more than 10,000 direct on-site construction jobs, and about 1,000 permanent positions. GE Vernova’s April 2, 2025, release called it the country’s largest natural-gas-powered data-center campus and said first turbine deliveries begin in 2026. Pennsylvania DEP’s Homer City Generation redevelopment page, updated August 31, 2026, lists the site at 1750 Powerplant Road, Center Township, as a decommissioned 2 GW coal plant, and posts final air-quality Plan Approval 32-00457A dated November 18, 2025, plus blasting, NPDES, and Chapter 105 files. Homer City Redevelopment reported in March 2026 that more than 1,000 workers were on site with Kiewit, targeting first power in early 2028, after the March 22, 2025, implosion of smokestacks and cooling towers, with more than $1 billion already funded into construction.
