Overview

PowerHouse PAX-1 is Pennsylvania Digital 1, a planned data-center campus in Middlesex Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, funded by Pennsylvania Data Center Partners and PowerHouse Data Centers. The PAX-1 campus site says the facility will use evaporative cooling in peak thermal conditions, that the Middlesex Township Municipal Authority reviewed and approved water plans including up to 400,000 gallons per day, and that no cooling or process water will discharge to Conodoguinet Creek. A 300-to-400-foot forested buffer along the creek stays in place. The project pays tapping fees to the municipal authority, including about $14.1 million, and at least $400,000 in recreation fees. The campus page says large-load users pay for the transmission upgrades they require, a $250 million energy-infrastructure investment at no cost to residents, with PPL planning a new switchyard and 500 kV lines. Construction is expected to employ more than 1,400 skilled tradespeople, about 77 percent living within 50 miles, and about 500 full-time permanent jobs once operating. Before the campus, the roughly 700-acre site employed three part-time workers. Work hours are generally 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with Country Club Road upgrades funded by the developer.
