Overview

Google’s Michigan City campus is the former Project Maize site at 402 Royal Road, the long-vacant Federal Mogul plant Phoenix Investors has owned since 2022. Data Center Dynamics reported that the Michigan City Economic Development Corporation said Google acquired the project, an $832 million investment, after a contested 2025 path: tax exemptions in early July, Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch saying that month the city would not pursue a developer that lacked binding community commitments, then Common Council approval in September for Phoenix Investors to proceed. Broderick Green said Google will pay 100 percent of the cost of power and of infrastructure driven by the site. EDC director Clarence Hulse cited 30-plus high-skill jobs.

WNDU reported Google confirming the acquisition on April 16, 2026. Mayor Deuitch called the reuse a digital-infrastructure play. City leaders said Google committed to hiring local trades within reason; the project had drawn protests over out-of-state labor. Green also said Google is committed to the health and safety of employees, construction partners, and the Michigan City community, and to protecting and restoring the environment at the site. DCD noted Google’s Google Fort Wayne campus went live in December 2025. Same-county, Data Center Dynamics places Microsoft La Porte just south of Michigan City.

Google’s other Indiana campus is Google Monrovia.

The public map lists 2 map records. Reported campus capacity is 300 MW. Both buildings are planned.
