Overview

Utah’s Military Installation Development Authority describes the Stratos Project Area, also called Wonder Valley, as a large energy and technology campus in western Box Elder County’s Hansel Valley. MIDA says the project was approved by the MIDA board and the Box Elder County Commission, sits on about 40,000 acres of unincorporated county land, and is planned in phases with state-required environmental review. MIDA frames Stratos as dedicated on-site generation for AI, cloud, and defense compute so the campus does not place additional demand on the existing grid, and lists Hill Air Force Base and the Utah National Guard among intended beneficiaries of project revenues. MIDA’s stakeholder materials project about 2,000 permanent jobs, $16.2 million in up-front funding to offset county-budget impacts, $30 million a year from a committed 3 GW Phase One, and $108 million a year at about 9 GW of build-out. The development team committed to fund public infrastructure for the project area. The Utah Governor’s Office published a Stratos FAQ in May 2026. Utah News Dispatch reported renderings for the Box Elder proposal and a multi-year permit path. FOX 13 reported revised Wonder Valley diagrams that cut advertised power about 17 percent and halved the original acreage. The public-map campus here is the two-phase Stratos pin, 3,000 MW Phase 1 plus 6,000 MW Phase 2 expansion, not Iron County’s Red Butte campus or Millard County’s Delta Gigasite.
