Overview

Joule Capital Partners, Caterpillar, and Wheeler Machinery announced on 7 August 2025 an agreement to power Joule’s High Performance Compute Data Center Campus in Utah. Caterpillar said the campus would use G3520K generator sets, combined cooling, heat, and power with liquid cooling, 1.1 GWh of grid-forming battery storage, and diverse backup fuels, with a 2026 gigawatt-capacity launch on about 4,000 acres in central Utah. Data Center Frontier reported the same 4,000-acre, 4 GW behind-the-meter HPC campus and Wheeler’s role as the Utah Cat dealer. Engineering News-Record said Millard County approved a zoning change from agricultural to heavy industrial on 5 August 2025 and that a conditional-use permit was still required before construction. Joule Power’s infrastructure page says the Millard County campus has owned land, long-haul fiber and gas-pipeline adjacency, generation equipment on firm order, a conditional-use permit executed, and heavy-industrial zoning, and that on-site generation is meant to bypass multi-year grid interconnection queues. The Millard County Chronicle Progress reported commissioners approving a Joule gas-pipeline development agreement. Construction Review Online covered the Joule campus among Utah’s largest planned data-center projects. Delta Gigasite is Millard County’s other mapped campus, Creekstone’s Delta pin, not this Joule Caterpillar campus.
