Overview

Microsoft’s Van Meter campus is the company’s first Dallas County, Iowa, data-center park outside West Des Moines, on Vision Park farmland south of 360th Street. Data Center Dynamics reported January 2024 purchases totaling 377 acres: $21.49 million for 188 acres from Ronald and Debra Gebhardt, $10.9 million for 115 acres from Land Concepts LLC, and $7.5 million for 74 acres from JD Ventures II LLC. Van Meter’s city administrator and the Greater Dallas County Development Alliance confirmed a data-center use; the Alliance had marketed Vision Park for technology infrastructure since 2014 because of topography and a nearby substation with transmission on the tract. The Des Moines Register put the land spend near $40 million and called the project Microsoft’s seventh central-Iowa campus and first in Van Meter, with more than 221 acres southeast of 360th Street and Richland Road plus 193 acres south of 365th Street. A later DCD COPT story quoted city administrator Liz Faust saying Microsoft planned at least ten halls of about 227,000 square feet each and could start construction in December 2024 or early 2025. Iowa’s other mapped campus is Google Palo beside the Duane Arnold plant in Linn County.
