Overview

CyrusOne’s Springfield-area campus is planned for 280 acres along Thayer Road near Waverly in Sangamon County, Illinois. Data Center Dynamics reported that the Sangamon County Board approved the project in April 2026 after CyrusOne sought planning permission the previous October. The company described a four-building development with as much as 634 MW at full build-out, closed-loop cooling, and an estimated $100 million in property-tax revenue over 20 years. County materials identify CyrusOne as an owner, developer, and operator with more than 55 facilities in the United States, Europe, and Japan, including other Illinois investments. The county created a dedicated project page for its staff report, public questions, hearing materials, presentations, audio, and written comments. A December 2025 public hearing at the Bank of Springfield Center included presentations both supporting and opposing the proposal. The public record places the development in southwestern Sangamon County and describes it as the county’s first hyperscale proposal. The map’s Springfield name refers to the regional market; the reported site is near Waverly rather than inside Springfield. The campus would add a large new electrical load beside agricultural land and was reviewed through the county zoning process.
