Overview
Kingsboro is Energy Storage Solutions’ planned data-center campus in Edgecombe County, North Carolina. WFAE reported on December 2, 2025, that the developer told the Edgecombe County Board of Commissioners it plans to break ground on a $19.2 billion, 900-megawatt campus in Kingsboro. President Dan Shaffer said the company would generate power on site, principally with natural gas turbines plus battery storage, and would overbuild generation to about 1,800 megawatts for redundancy during repairs. He estimated the campus would generate about $75 million a year in taxes during the first seven years in a county with an $82 million budget, and about 1,000 permanent jobs employed by tenants rather than by Energy Storage Solutions. Community organizer Janice Bulluck and other speakers at the December 1 commission meeting raised natural-gas availability, air pollution, water use, and whether the campus would employ local residents the way the former QVC distribution center did. James Wrenn compared data centers of the 2020s to the hog farms and slaughterhouses of the 1990s, recalling a 300-acre slaughterhouse plan that would have drawn 6 million gallons a day from the Tar River. Shaffer said he did not yet know how much water the site would require and pointed to closed-loop cooling as a way to cut freshwater use. North Carolina’s other mapped campus in this directory is AWS Blue Marlin.
The public map lists one map record, Kingsboro Data Center Campus, 900 MW, planned. Reported campus capacity is 900 MW.
