Overview

Google confirmed Project Mica as its second Kansas City, Missouri, data-center campus when construction began at the northeast corner of Interstate 435 and Highway 169 in Clay County. Data Center Dynamics reported a 500-acre site for five halls totaling 1.56 million square feet and 700 MW according to Port KC, with Evergy supplying power and Google covering full energy costs for both Kansas City campuses. Google’s Trystine Payfer said the company broke ground on its first Missouri campus in 2024 and that typical builds take 18 to 24 months. Port KC had authorized up to $10 billion in tax breaks including a 75 percent real-property abatement for 25 years. DCD said Diode Ventures introduced the park in 2023 as Rocky Branch Creek Technology Park, Google acquired it in 2024 after QTS withdrew over power timing, and the first Hunt Midwest campus remains under construction. The public map lists three planned Google Mica buildings totaling 420 MW. Clay County’s Northland also hosts Google Kansas City East at Hunt Midwest and Meta’s nearby Northland site. Port KC’s 700 MW and five-building figures for Mica sit beside Google’s statement that it will pay full energy costs at both Kansas City campuses. The Hunt Midwest $1 billion announcement remains the public origin story for Google’s first Clay County campus next door.
