Overview

Microsoft’s Granger campus is a planned data-center project on the former St. Joseph Farms property in St. Joseph County, Indiana, near Bittersweet and Cleveland Roads and the Indiana Toll Road. InkFreeNews reported that the St. Joseph County Redevelopment Commission approved a memorandum of understanding on March 17, 2026 among Microsoft, the county, and the city of Mishawaka. The MOU covers pre-development roads and utilities, which Microsoft will fund at up to $12.6 million. County economic development officials said overall investment could exceed $1 billion, with later infrastructure also funded by Microsoft. The campus was announced in 2024 after Microsoft’s $77.5 million purchase of about 930 acres from St. Joe Farm. Plans described in that report call for six buildings and about 300 workers, with construction potentially beginning as soon as late April 2026, and officials said the company is not seeking tax abatements. Microsoft is not using Granger water for cooling; InkFreeNews said a set amount of water sourced outside St. Joseph County will run on a two-year cycle and then be returned, with restroom water from Mishawaka. Residents raised flooding, drainage, air quality, noise, and backup-generator emissions at the meeting.

WSBT reported on May 21, 2026 that site work was underway off Currant Road at the old St. Joseph Farms, with construction vehicles on site. County leaders said a petition with more than 1,000 signatures was not expected to slow the project. The South Bend Tribune had reported in February 2026 that county officials gave an update on the Granger Microsoft campus.
