Overview

Amazon Data Services is permitting a data-center campus at the Port of Walla Walla’s Wallula Gap Business Park in Walla Walla County, Washington. The Walla Walla Union-Bulletin reported that Amazon filed the last piece of its application, a traffic-impact analysis, on 21 August 2026, three days before a 24 August deadline, after the rest of the packet went in in late May. Community Development Director Melissa Shumake said she would review the documents, request more information if needed, then issue a Notice of Application and a 30-day comment period. In February 2026 the Port sold Amazon two parcels totaling 554 acres at the park. Amazon is applying to build on 134 acres of that land between Dodd Road and Worden Road east of U.S. Highway 12, about 0.4 miles from the Columbia River. An earlier Union-Bulletin story said Shumake issued a 23 June notice of incomplete application because a required component was missing, starting a 60-day clock that would void the filing without a refund if Amazon missed 24 August. Preapplication materials on the county FAQ described the first phase on the 134-acre parcel along Sundance Road. The campus would house servers, storage, networking, and security gear for cloud computing. Amazon’s three mapped Wallula Gap phases are this Attalia / Wallula Gap Business Park pin, not a second Washington campus on this directory. The 554-acre Port sale and the 134-acre first-phase parcel are the Union-Bulletin land figures for the same AWS Wallula Gap application.
